Jazz Band

Directed by Mr. Duque-Park. Jazz Band teaches students in grades 7 & 8 new styles of music such as swing, rock, blues, Latin, and ballad. Students in jazz band must show strong leadership and commitment to the music program and to the school.

Instrumentation is limited to: saxophones, trumpets and trombones, as well as a rhythm section  (drum kit, jazz piano, guitar and bass). Students who do not currently play one of these instruments are encouraged to talk to Mr. Duque-Park about doubling. For example: a student who plays flute or clarinet can often pick up the saxophone. Students playing tuba or euphonium can usually play trombone.

Students will take part in at least three performances per year and have the opportunity to join the Spring Tour.

***Please note: It is required that jazz band students are also in concert band or concert choir.

Classes meet outside the timetable twice per week.
